When Do MLB Tickets Go On Sale? Schedule Release, Single-Game Dates, and Postseason

The MLB ticket calendar, start to finish

MLB tickets do not drop all at once. MLB publishes the schedule in the summer, while teams open season-ticket and partial-plan sales in the fall, spring training tickets arrive around the holidays, single-game tickets roll out from November through March depending on the club, and postseason tickets appear only after a team clinches in September.

Here is the full cycle, using the 2026 season as the reference year and the 2027 dates that are already confirmed.

Step 1: The schedule release (July or August)

Everything starts with the schedule. MLB released the 2027 regular-season schedule on July 16, 2026, about eight months before first pitch. The 2026 schedule came out a little later, on Aug. 26, 2025.

The 2027 schedule looks like this: Opening Night is Wednesday, March 24, with a single game streamed on Netflix (matchup still to be announced). Traditional Opening Day is Thursday, March 25, with 14 games. The All-Star Game is Tuesday, July 13, at Wrigley Field, and the regular season is scheduled to end Sunday, Sept. 26.

One caveat matters for 2027. The current collective bargaining agreement expires Dec. 1, 2026, and the players’ union has said it expects a lockout when it does. The last lockout, in 2021-22, was not settled until March 10, 2022, which pushed Opening Day from March 31 to April 7. The 2027 schedule is still subject to change, and the on-sale dates below assume the season starts on time.

Once the schedule is public, teams know their home dates and can build ticket plans. Resale marketplaces often create event pages once the schedule is released, so you will often see listings for next season’s games months before the team sells a single ticket.

Step 2: Season tickets and the early sellers (September to November)

Season-ticket renewals and new full or partial plans open first, typically in September and October. A handful of teams also put single-game tickets on sale during this window rather than waiting for winter.

The Yankees are the clearest example. The team’s ticket page says single-game tickets for the upcoming season “historically” go on sale in September of the current season, and it anticipates 2027 single-game tickets going on sale in September 2026.

The Angels announced on Nov. 21, 2025, that single-game tickets for both spring training and the 2026 regular season would go on sale Monday, Nov. 24, at 10 a.m. PT. The Reds were also selling 2026 single-game tickets by Nov. 17, 2025, with a limited fee-free promotion through Nov. 24.

If you want a specific game, such as Opening Day, a rivalry series or a bobblehead night, watch this window. Early sellers put the whole season on sale at once, which means the best face-value seats for marquee dates disappear before most fans are thinking about baseball.

Step 3: Spring training tickets (December and January)

Spring training tickets have their own on-sale dates, and they generally land in December and early January. The Mets announced on Dec. 4, 2025, that 2026 spring training tickets would go on sale Thursday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. ET, for a Grapefruit League schedule that opened Feb. 21 at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie against the Marlins.

Some teams bundle spring training with the regular season. The Angels’ Nov. 24 on-sale covered both. Others sell spring training tickets through the shared ballpark rather than the team, which is common in Arizona, where 15 teams share 10 stadiums. Both leagues opened Friday, Feb. 20, 2026 (four Cactus League games plus one Grapefruit League game, Yankees at Orioles), with the first full slate of all 30 clubs on Saturday, Feb. 21.

If you are planning a trip, treat mid-December as the deadline to have your dates picked. Weekend games against teams such as the Cubs, Dodgers and Giants in Arizona can sell faster than midweek games, and the primary on-sale is usually the only time you will see face-value prices on those.

Step 4: Single-game tickets, team by team (January to March)

This is the window most fans mean when they ask when MLB tickets go on sale. For the 2026 season, the concrete dates looked like this:

Three patterns show up across these announcements.

First, teams often announce the on-sale date days or weeks in advance. The Phillies announced on Jan. 21 for a Jan. 22 sale. The Mets announced Jan. 29 for Feb. 12. The Angels announced Nov. 21 for Nov. 24. Team press releases and the MLB Ballpark app are the fastest way to catch these.

Second, several teams sell in phases. The Mets’ February on-sale covered only March through June. The Red Sox have used the same approach: in 2025 they put June 2 through July 27 games on sale Feb. 13 and released the Aug. 1 through Sept. 28 block on March 6. If your game is in August, the on-sale for it may be weeks after the “tickets on sale now” headline.

Third, Opening Day is often carved out. The Phillies sold 2026 Opening Day only through a three-game pack. The Dodgers held Opening Day tickets back for a later public release. Expect the same treatment for the home opener and for the biggest rivalry series.

Presales are standard. The Dodgers ran a Mastercard presale the day before the public sale, and the Cubs used a registration window. Signing up for a team’s email list can help you access presales, although requirements vary.

Step 5: Postseason tickets (September, by clinching team)

MLB postseason tickets on sale dates are not set by the league. Each club sells its own home games, and it cannot sell them until it has clinched, or is close enough that it is willing to sell contingent tickets. That puts nearly every postseason on-sale in the last two weeks of September.

The 2025 Brewers are a typical case. Milwaukee announced first-round ticket details on Sept. 17, 2025, confirmed them as NLDS tickets after clinching the NL Central on Sept. 21, and opened the public sale on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. CT. Before that, the only guaranteed route was a 2026 partial or full season-seat membership, which the team promoted as “the only way to secure postseason tickets before they go on sale to the public.”

The Mariners showed how short the public window can be. After Seattle clinched the AL West, playoff tickets went on sale to the public at noon on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, and sold out within minutes. Resale listings were available the same day at prices one fan described to KOMO News as “a week’s wages.” The Mariners also noted that refunds for games that are never played apply only to tickets bought directly from the team, not through resale.

For 2026, the regular season ends Sunday, Sept. 27. The Wild Card Series starts Tuesday, Sept. 29, and wraps by Oct. 1. The Division Series begins Oct. 3, the NLCS on Oct. 11 and the ALCS on Oct. 12, and the World Series opens Friday, Oct. 23, with a Game 7 on Oct. 31 if needed. Clinch dates usually cluster in the Sept. 14 to 27 range, so expect postseason on-sale announcements throughout that stretch.

How resale listings appear before and during the on-sale

Resale is the part of the timeline that does not wait for anyone. Marketplaces build event pages as soon as the schedule is out, and season-ticket holders can list their seats the moment they receive them. So by the time a team’s public single-game sale opens, there are often already listings for the same game, and within hours of the on-sale there are hundreds more.

This matters for two reasons. If the primary sale sells out in minutes, as postseason games do, resale is the only remaining market. And for ordinary regular-season games, resale supply is deep enough that the get-in price (the cheapest listed seat) often drops below face value as the game approaches. Once tickets are on sale, when should you actually buy?

The on-sale date is when you can buy. It is rarely the cheapest time to buy for a regular-season game. According to TicketScanner’s daily price tracking of 456 completed MLB games from May 22 to Aug. 25, 2026, the median get-in price fell as game day approached and then flattened out.

The median get-in dropped about 17%, from $29 in the 31-60 day window to $24 inside two weeks, and then held at $24 through game day. Waiting past two weeks did not lower the median further, though the cheapest quarter of games dipped slightly, from $16 to $15.

Day of the week moved prices more than timing did. In the same sample, using prices within three days of the game, Tuesday games had a median get-in of $17 and Monday games $20, while Friday games were $29 and Saturday games $30, according to TicketScanner’s tracking. That is a 50% to 75% premium for a weekend game over a Tuesday.

So the practical rule for a normal regular-season game is to buy around two weeks out, and to pick a weeknight if the date is flexible. The exceptions are the games that behave like postseason games: Opening Day, the home opener, marquee rivalry series and giveaway nights. For those, the primary on-sale is the moment to act, because resale prices for high-demand games do not follow the curve above.

FAQ

When are MLB tickets released for the 2027 season?

No dates are confirmed yet. Based on the 2026 cycle, expect the earliest teams (the Yankees say they anticipate a September 2026 on-sale) to start in September, more teams in November, spring training tickets in December, and most single-game on-sales between late January and late February 2027. A lockout after the CBA expires Dec. 1, 2026, could push those dates back.

Is there a single MLB ticket release date for all teams?

No. Each of the 30 clubs sets its own on-sale date, and some split the season into two or three sales. In 2026 the spread ran from Nov. 24, 2025 (Angels) to Feb. 20, 2026 (Cubs). Team press releases on MLB.com and the MLB Ballpark app carry the announcements.

When do spring training tickets go on sale?

Mostly in December and January. The Mets sold 2026 spring training tickets starting Dec. 11, 2025, and the Angels included spring training in their Nov. 24, 2025, sale. The Cactus League and Grapefruit League both opened Feb. 20, 2026, with the first full slate on Feb. 21, so December is the practical planning deadline.

When do MLB postseason tickets go on sale?

After a team clinches, usually within a week, and almost always in the last two weeks of September. In 2025 the Brewers opened their public NLDS sale on Sept. 23 and the Mariners sold out their public allotment within minutes on Sept. 25. The 2026 Wild Card Series begins Sept. 29.

Should I buy MLB single-game tickets the day they go on sale?
