How we measured the cheapest NHL tickets

“Get-in price” is the cheapest listed ticket for a game across the resale marketplaces TicketScanner tracks, in US dollars, before fees. TicketScanner records that number every day for every game it follows.

For this ranking we took a snapshot on Aug. 25, 2026, covering each team’s upcoming 2026-27 home games. That worked out to 31 to 39 games per team, depending on how many were listed at the time. The figure for each team is the median of its home-game get-in prices, so a single giveaway night or one rivalry game does not swing the result. We also show the lowest and highest single-game get-in for each team so you can see the spread.

Two things to keep in mind. This is a preseason snapshot taken about five weeks before the Sept. 29 opener, and prices move daily. And get-in is the floor, not the average: it tells you what the cheapest seat in the building costs, which is the number most fans on a budget actually care about.

The table lists all 32 teams from cheapest to most expensive, with arena and city. Arena names reflect the current naming rights deals, including Benchmark International Arena in Tampa and Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, both renamed before the 2025-26 season. All prices are from TicketScanner’s Aug. 25, 2026 snapshot.

Utah’s Delta Center listed 12,478 hockey seats in 2025-26; renovations continue through the summers of 2026 and 2027, with a full-build target of roughly 17,000 hockey seats, so the 2026-27 figure may differ.

A few things stand out. Fifteen teams have a median get-in under $50, and Buffalo sits exactly at the $50 league median. Only five teams are above $80. And Montreal’s cheapest home game ($78) costs more than the median get-in of 27 other teams.

The 10 cheapest NHL teams for 2026-27

Here is one line of context for each of the cheapest NHL teams, using 2025-26 final standings from ESPN and arena capacities from Wikipedia’s arena list unless noted.

  1. Columbus Blue Jackets, $25 median. Nationwide Arena seats 18,144. Columbus went 40-30-12 for 92 points in 2025-26, then went 2-7-1 in its final 10 games and missed the playoffs for a sixth straight season. A mid-sized market with no playoff premium is the cheapest combination in the league right now.
  2. St. Louis Blues, $31 median. Enterprise Center seats 18,096. The Blues finished 37-33-12 and missed the playoffs for the third time in four seasons, after trailing the second wild card by 14 points at the Olympic break. The $9 floor is the second-lowest in the league.
  3. Florida Panthers, $36 median. Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise seats 19,250. The back-to-back defending champions went 40-38-4 and missed the playoffs after captain Aleksander Barkov’s season-ending knee injury in training camp. South Florida has ranked among the cheapest NHL markets in the Action Network and Free Bets family-cost studies for years, and the results say nothing changed.
  4. New Jersey Devils, $40 median. Prudential Center in Newark seats 16,514 and ran at 97.8% occupancy last season, per The Hockey News. The Devils still finished 42-37-3, seventh in the Metropolitan, and missed the playoffs. A small building and a weak finish cancel each other out at the low end of the price list.
  5. Calgary Flames, $40 median. This is the 43rd and final season at the Scotiabank Saddledome (19,289 seats) before the move to Scotia Place in 2027-28. Calgary went 34-39-9 last season. Farewell-season demand has not shown up in the get-in price yet.
  6. San Jose Sharks, $41 median. SAP Center seats 17,562. The Sharks improved by 34 points to 39-35-8 on the back of Macklin Celebrini’s 115-point season, but they missed the second wild card by four points and carry a seven-season playoff drought. The $14 floor makes this one of the cheapest hockey tickets on the West Coast.
  7. Tampa Bay Lightning, $41 median. Benchmark International Arena (19,092 seats) hosted a 50-26-6, 106-point team that lost a seven-game first-round series to Montreal. This is the cheapest playoff team in the ranking. Note the $23 floor, though, which is the highest among the 10 cheapest teams.
  8. Detroit Red Wings, $41 median. Little Caesars Arena seats 19,515. Detroit was tied for first in the Eastern Conference in late January, then went 9-14-4 down the stretch and missed the playoffs for a 10th straight season, the longest active drought in the NHL.
  9. Nashville Predators, $42 median. Bridgestone Arena seats 17,159. The Predators went 38-34-10 and missed the playoffs for a second straight year. Nashville’s $12 to $116 range is wide, so the game you pick matters more here than in Columbus or St. Louis.
  10. Los Angeles Kings, $42 median. Crypto.com Arena seats 18,230. The Kings made the playoffs at 35-27-20 and added Artemi Panarin in a February trade with the Rangers. A playoff team in a major market at $42 is the best value on this list for a big-city fan.

The most expensive NHL teams and why

Montreal Canadiens, $152 median. Bell Centre is the largest building in the NHL at 21,105 seats, and the Canadiens had the second-highest floor of any team at $78, behind only Toronto. Montreal went 48-24-10 for 106 points and reached the Eastern Conference Final, where Carolina beat them in five. Big building, deep run, and the most hockey-obsessed market in the league.

Toronto Maple Leafs, $150 median. Scotiabank Arena seats 18,800. Toronto finished 32-36-14 for 78 points and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016, then fired its general manager. The median barely reflects that. Toronto’s cheapest game in the snapshot was $96, higher than the median get-in of every team except Montreal and the Rangers. Demand here is structural, not results-driven.

New York Rangers, $120 median. Madison Square Garden seats 18,006. The Rangers finished 34-39-9 for 77 points, last in the Eastern Conference, and missed the playoffs for a second straight year with a 14-20-7 home record. Even so, Manhattan and the building keep the get-in above $100.

Minnesota Wild, $86 median. Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul seats 18,064. The Wild went 46-24-12 for 104 points. What makes Minnesota expensive is the floor: no home game was listed below $40, and the $127 high is modest by comparison.

Boston Bruins, $82 median. TD Garden is one of the smaller rinks at 17,565 seats. Boston went 45-27-10 for 100 points. The Bruins’ $29 to $323 range is the widest in the league, which means the opponent matters more in Boston than anywhere else.

Regional notes: Canada and the Sun Belt

The seven Canadian teams do not price as a block. Toronto and Montreal sit at the top, Edmonton ($75) and Vancouver ($62) are in the upper half, and Ottawa ($45), Winnipeg ($44) and Calgary ($40) are all in the cheaper half of the league. Vancouver is the odd one: the Canucks finished 25-49-8 with 58 points, the worst record in the NHL, and the median get-in is still $62 with a $40 floor. Winnipeg is the opposite lesson. Canada Life Centre, at 15,294 seats, is the smallest NHL rink other than Utah’s mid-renovation Delta Center, and a $44 median shows a small building does not automatically mean expensive tickets.

The Sun Belt is where most of the cheapest hockey tickets live. Florida ($36), Tampa Bay ($41), Nashville ($42), Los Angeles ($42), Dallas ($46), Anaheim ($51) and Carolina ($53) are all at or below the league median. Dallas won 112 points and is at $46. Carolina won the Stanley Cup and will raise the banner on opening night, and its median is $53, though the $40 floor and $183 high show the market is starting to move. Vegas ($72) is the Sun Belt exception, which lines up with the family-cost studies that put T-Mobile Arena second only to Toronto for total game-night cost.

How to use these numbers

Read the floor, not just the median. Tampa Bay and Nashville both have medians around $41 to $42, but Nashville’s floor is $12 and Tampa’s is $23. If your dates are flexible, teams with a low floor and a wide range are where the real bargains are: Buffalo ($7 to $144), Dallas ($11 to $90), Nashville ($12 to $116) and Colorado ($13 to $104) all have cheap nights hiding under a mid-priced median.

Expect the opponent to drive the top end. TicketScanner’s snapshot does not tag which visitor produced each team’s highest game, but the pattern in the highest-game column (Boston $323, Carolina $183, Winnipeg $169, Ottawa $159, Edmonton $157) is what you would expect from Original Six visits, Canadian rivals and the defending champion coming to town. For the cheapest NHL games, target a non-division opponent on a weeknight.

Weeknights are cheaper, at least in every other sport TicketScanner tracks. There is no NHL day-of-week data yet because the season has not started, but in TicketScanner’s MLB tracking from May 22 to Aug. 25, 2026, Tuesday games had a $17 median get-in and Monday games $20, versus $29 on Friday and $30 on Saturday. That is MLB data, not NHL, but there is no reason to expect hockey demand to break the pattern. The 2026-27 schedule also includes a series of Monday matinee games aimed at European audiences, which are worth watching as a price test.

Prices move daily

This ranking is a snapshot of listings on Aug. 25, 2026, more than a month before opening night. Rosters are not final, a few teams have games still being listed, and a hot start in October will lift a team’s floor fast. Florida at $36 is a good example of how quickly a market can reprice in either direction: two Cups in a row, then a season out of the playoffs, and now the third-cheapest ticket in the league. Treat the table as a starting point for which teams to watch, then check the current get-in for the specific game before you buy.
